Catholic Schools Week: Belong to Something Greater On Monday 2nd March we celebrated the start of CSW with a Liturgy of the Word, celebrating the theme, ‘Belong to Something Greater’. To belong to a Catholic school community, and especially our community here at St Mary MacKillop is to belong to something greater than ourselves, a shared commitment to human dignity, learning for life, and formation in faith, hope, and love.

Wow! What a great week for our community. We had our largest attendance at our Meet The Teacher and Welcome Barbecue on Wednesday night. This was followed by a massive turnout for our Opening School Mass and Student Leaders Commissioning. Shout out to Kathy, Chanelle and our fabulous P and F volunteers for the sausage sandwiches and morning tea.

Big congratulations to the Tag Ninjas Under 6 OzTag team on a fantastic season! They finished runners-up in the Grand Final and showed wonderful sportsmanship, teamwork and determination all year. Formed from the friendships they built in Kindy, this team is a wonderful reflection of the strong, supportive St Mary MacKillop community. We’re so proud of them! Year 3 and Year 5 Author Visit On Thursday the 29th February, we were very lucky to welcome two of Sydney’s well-known, creative and highly entertaining authors to our school - Kate and Jol Temple. Our Year 3 and Year 5 students got an insight into the creative writing process as experienced by authors and were treated to some helpful hints to help them along in creative writing from two of the best. It was a very worthwhile experience which our students loved. A huge thank you goes to our P & F for supporting and funding this event. Thank you again for giving this opportunity to our students. I know they are extremely grateful. We look forward to welcoming more authors into our school to share their craft.

Year 1 have had a tremendous start to 2026. We have been working hard in maths creating patterns, counting collections and knowing the difference between odd and even numbers. We’ve also started to learn our Seasons song to know what months belong to what season.

"Our new ramp at the front of the school is coming along nicely. It will give our school full mobility access for all students, families and visitors. The handrail installation should begin this Wednesday and we are not far away from being able to put it to use."

In Kindergarten, we have been doing lots of new learning. We are learning how to play, learn, and be safe in our classrooms and on the playground. We have also been learning about counting using concrete materials, such as counters, to help us see what a collection looks like. In literacy, we have been working on understanding the difference between a letter, a word, and a sentence. We are all having a wonderful start to our schooling journey and are enjoying making new friendships along the way. We have also met our buddies and built on our friendships by doing lots of fun things with them in the classroom and on the playground.
