Last week our senior students were able to connect with our fantastic Catholic High Schools from around the district. It was an absolute pleasure to work with each of these school communities.
On Monday 25 February, we had the team from Xavier College come and visit to talk about the great opportunities at high school.
On Wednesday, Mrs Rowan and I had the chance to visit McCarthy College and tour the great new learning spaces there. We then hosted Mrs Cairns, Mrs Sparks and two students to talk with our children about the transformation that is happening at their school.
On Thursday we had our boys meet with Mr Ronchetti and Mr Walsh from St Dominic’s College to find out about the traditions of the school as well as the way quality learning creates opportunities for their graduates.
Also at this time, Mr Elliot and a team of students from Caroline Chisholm met with our girls. There are exciting developments happening to the facilities at present and this will translate to a better learning environment for their students in 2020.
If you have a child in Year 6 but especially if you have a child in Year 5, I implore you to take up the opportunity to visit our high schools during their Open Days and make an informed parent decision for your child’s schooling.

During mass, they reflected on the belief that the Holy Spirit was sent to us by God to be with us and help to guide us in life to serve others. They shared their learning about how they all have Gifts from the Spirit to use for the Common Good.

Last Wednesday, SMMP was treated to a special performance of the book 'Luna Roo' by our amazing staff, in order to celebrate National Simultaneous Story Time 2026. An event where the same book is read across many schools, Libraries, bookshops and Daycare centres across Australia.

Grandparents Day Today we gathered as a school community to honour and give thanks for the grandparents of Jesus - St Joachim and St Anne and the joy our grandparents bring to our lives. In honour of our grandparents we celebrated a Liturgy of the Word (lead by Year 1), held a Book Fair in our library, spoiled the grandparents with a delicious morning tea (a big thank you to our P&F volunteers! )and invited all grandparents into the classrooms so that they could see all the great learning that the students have achieved so far this year. Grandparents are very special people. They bring much joy into the lives of their families and especially the lives of their grandchildren. Grandparents are kind, patient, selfless and loving. They are an essential part of a family and we thank them for their love and support. Thank you to everyone who helped organised today and to everyone who attended – it was a beautiful morning of faith and celebration!

Book Fair update Please Note Families are encouraged to purchase books online, or alternatively, students can share their wish list with Grandparents and parents who may plan to come to the library to purchase books after the liturgy. Please be aware that the books at school may not all be available online and once they are sold out, we are unable to reorder. It is suggested that families either choose another item from the Fair or online. Our Book Fair is a major fundraiser for our school library and has traditionally been a part of our Grandparents liturgy, alongside morning tea and open classrooms. Unfortunately we can only sell books that Larrikin provides to us, once they are sold, we can only offer alternative options to avoid disappointment. In recognition of National Reconciliation Week, our Year 2 students have been learning all about the importance of this week, and how the stories of Indigenous Australians have such a deep connection to our land and its history. After watching the Dreamtime Story 'Girawu The Goanna', the students learnt about the importance of Aboriginal symbols and how they are used to create stories. Each student then independently created their own unique story. We are so proud to see how these young learners are so respectful and how they were able to instantly connect and identify how these symbols represent who they are and their own personal journeys, history and connection to the land we all learn on today.

Outstanding Student Leaders Last night our School Captains represented St Mary MacKillop at a function run by Penrith City Council. Alara and Chris demonstrated why our school is a great school when they got to go up onto the stage at Evans Theatre, meet the Mayor and receive a certificate acknowledging their leadership at our school. This Council Reception brings all the primary school student leaders together from around the council area to be recognised and honoured as the future leaders for our community. Well done Alara and Chris. Thank you for representing our school community and for all you do as School Captains.
