The St Mary MacKillop community recently came together to raise $337.60 for the Cancer Council' Biggest Morning Tea which was held on Friday the 11th May.

Australia's Biggest Morning Tea is Cancer Council Australia's most popular fundraising event and the largest, most successful event of its kind in Australia. Last year, the initiative raised an amazing $11.9 million to help beat cancer.

This ties in closely with our approach to social justice and following in the footsteps of Mary MacKillop, who famously said to "never see a need without doing something about it". Students and parents baked various goods as a part of the fundraiser ranging from cakes to slices, cupcakes, tarts, cookies and a whole lot more. The empathy and compassion shown by students as a part of this fundraiser was commendable.

A big thank you to the parents and students who assisted in baking the goods for our morning tea, this was a great effort for a very valuable cause.

This week, our school community celebrated NAIDOC Week. NAIDOC week is the first week of the holidays. “Fifty Years of Deadly” (NAIDOC 2026 theme) marks a milestone. It’s a tribute to the people who built this movement: the Elders who stood firm, the organisers who made space, the artists who turned resistance into expression and the communities who keep showing up, year after year. To celebrate, grades read books, completed artworks, and other activities to learn more about this special celebration. Mr Buchan even organised a special event where we were able to have a Virtual Author Talk with Corey Tutt, who read two of his books with us and shared about his journey as an author.

This morning, Year 5 celebrated a beautiful Mass with Fr Joe. Reflecting on the theme, “We are the Church, the people of God,” the celebration highlighted our call to share the Good News through faith, kindness and service. Thank you to our Year 5 students, Fr Joe and staff for leading such a meaningful celebration.
